My July 2nd Patriotic Rant...

I've been thinking a lot lately about what our founding fathers meant for this country, and how they would react if they could be here to see what we've morphed into today.  What made them patriots, and have we overused that term?  To me, I've grown up thinking that a patriot is somebody that has love for country, and patriotism is following through with that love for their country.  A patriot can, really, be applied to anything.  However, recently, I've noticed that patriotism is applied and related directly to government.  It seems as though government dominates the American society.  You wake up and turn on the news or listen to the news throughout the day, and we have to have the up to minute updates of our massive governmental happenings. Our politicians today have forgotten that they are elected by the people and for the people, and therefore, should serve the people.  Instead, our politicians have sold out the service aspect of government and they are constantly running, and rerunning for office.  Now, because they've lost sight of their true mission, it seems as though government is getting in the way of the one thing that the founding fathers died for, and that is freedom.  Therefore, I refuse to equate government with patriotism because they are not one in the same.  This country was founded on one main ideal, and that is freedom.  Today, we have governmental figures putting their arm around you, while having their other hand in your pocket with unreal spending, which rips the American people off.  Basically, what this rant comes down to is the fact that we need to fight for and enjoy our freedoms because we should never be so arrogant to think that they will always be there.  So, on this actual Independence Day (that thing was actually signed on the 2nd), enjoy your freedoms of loving your family, worshiping, and other freedoms we take for granted.

In this present crisis, government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem. From time to time we've been tempted to believe that society has become too complex to be managed by self-rule, that government by an elite group is superior to government for, by, and of the people. Well, if no one among us is capable of governing himself, then who among us has the capacity to govern someone else? All of us together, in and out of government, must bear the burden. The solutions we seek must be equitable, with no one group singled out to pay a higher price. -Ronald Reagan

Well, No school for the summer.  I am only a couple of classes from graduating, which I will accomplish in December.  So, currently I just started an excellent career opportunity at City Electric Supply, which is a world wide company with everything one could ask for.  Not only that, I have my life back through having normal hours.  Plus, I've been informed I'm in line for a huge promotion with a nice salary over the next couple of months, but that's all I'll say at this time.  So....

Clay Jordan Taylor's Plans Over the Next Couple of Months:

  • Anytime you look at your watch and it's a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, or a Friday, and the hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, I'm at work.
  • Then, on those same weekdays that have been discussed, I usually come home and...
    • take a quick nap
    • cook dinner for myself and my lovely wife, Whitney
    • watch a movie
    • watch a sporting event (Cubs, WWE, Red Sox, etc...)
    • On special occasions we may go out to eat or to a movie
  • Then, on weekends, I'm planning on spending a lot of time with my lovely wife, Whitney.  Perhaps taking a few trips north (Tupelo and Memphis) to visit family which we haven't had an opportunity to since we've been married.
  • July 4th is a holiday at work, and we will be in Tupelo visiting, fellowshipping, and breaking bread with the family
  • July 5th Whitney and I, Caleb Earnest and his little thang, along with Kale and Amanda are going to Arkansas to camp and canoe.
  • July 11th I will head to Destin, FL
  • Then, there may be a weekend get away or two to, say, Birmingham, New Orleans, or Atlanta... Who knows?
So, odds are I won't update this thing this summer, and if you just so happen to be sitting around at the house wondering what ol' Clay Taylor is up to... refer to this list.

For he spoke, and it came to be.
He commanded and it stood fast.  -Psalm 33:9

The Lord has Power and Might!

From heaven the Lord looked down to see all mankind
From His dwelling place he watches all who live on earth.
He who forms the hearts of them all,
and He is intimately acquainted with everything they do. -Psalm 33:13-15

The Lord is Relational!

They eyes of the Lord are on those who fear him.
On those who hope in his unfailing love
To deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine. -Psalm 33:18-19

The Lord shows Grace!

I separate that passage into those three stages, and I think it speaks well to us today.  This powerful and awesome God that created the world and human beings in order to show his relation to us, and to reveal His glory.  He does that through His grace.
